A SCHEME costing £300,000 will transform a town centre, it is said.

People who live and work in Cleckheaton are being asked for their views on the plans.

One suggestion is to create a new town square in the market place area.

There would be new paving, lights, seats and trees.

The Albion Street precinct and the pedestrian entrance to Central Arcade would be improved.

Two exhibitions are being held to show the Kirklees Council blueprint.

The first exhibition is from 10am to 1pm on Saturday, December 3, at the Albion Street precinct.

The second starts on Tuesday, December 6, at Market Arcade, from 10am until 1pm.

It continues, with the same hours, until Wednesday, December 14.

Council officers will be at both exhibitions and leaflets and questionnaires will be available.

Council Cabinet member Clr Andrew Pinnock said:

"The proposed scheme will transform the heart of the town centre."

The first phase of the work is due to start next summer.
