HUDDERSFIELD Town fans will be barred from drinking in Barnsley town centre on Saturday.

Police say pub landlords in the South Yorkshire town have made the decision themselves.

But two pubs on the main Sheffield Road, about a quarter-of-a-mile from Barnsley's Oakwell ground, will welcome away supporters before Saturday's 3pm kick-off.

They are The Outpost and the Coach and Horses.

The Metrodome Leisure Centre, also near the stadium, will be closed, but Town fans can park there and at the nearby Queen's Ground and Piper's Cottage car parks.

Fans have also been urged to make a quick exit from Barnsley after the match finishes, as both buses and trains will stop running early in the evening.

Football liaison officer Pc Mick Houseman said: "The last bus to Huddersfield is about 6pm and the trains also stop running from 6pm.

"So our advice to fans is to get away as quickly as possible.

"Otherwise, they may be stuck paying for an expensive taxi home - or even end up walking!"

Thousands of Town fans are expected to make the 19-mile journey to Barnsley on Saturday.
