THE world's biggest Cross of St George flag arrived at Huddersfield's McAlpine Stadium as part of nationwide tour raising money for Sport Relief.

The Nationwide Building Society, an official partner of the England football team, has produced the 50ft x 20ft St George's Cross flag to tour all Nationwide League and Premiership grounds in England.

The flag is being taken across the country to give football fans the chance to sign the flag and demonstrate their support for England as the nation prepares for Euro 2004 in Portugal this summer.

Nationwide will be collecting a piece of signed merchandise at every club visited by the flag, which will later be auctioned on the internet.

Proceeds will go to Sport Relief, which uses sport to help disadvantaged children and groups throughout the world.

Peter Gandolfi, Nationwide's head of sports marketing, said: "The flag will be presented at the England team's base in Lisbon ahead of Euro 2004.

"It will be a demonstration to Sven and the squad of the level of pride, passion and belief in the nation."

Nationwide is one of Comic Relief's official corporate partners and is supporting Sport Relief with football related activities during the summer.
