TRACEY Lightowlers has won a place in the latest Which? Good Food Guide with her first pub.

The Kings Arms at South Crosland achieved the honour after satisfied customers recommended the restaurant to the guide.

A reviewer then visited the restaurant incognito to assess the quality of the food.

A request for details of the restaurant and sample menus followed in the post, but owner Tracey found out just days ago that they had a place in the guide, which was published this month.

It is the first pub that Tracey, 40, has run by herself.

She says the secret of her success is that she sets herself high standards - and keeps them. "Setting up a restaurant of this type in a rural area was a gamble," said Tracey.

"Customers have described The Kings Arms as `A London pub in the sticks'."

Leather sofas, heavy wooden tables and quality glassware underline dedication to quality. Menus include watercress soup with chive yogurt, followed by duck confit, greens, beetroot and pancetta, then there's tiramisu brulee with sable biscuits to round it off.

Lighter bites, likecalves' liver with carrot and swede, and sandwiches are also served.

Tracey added: "Our service is efficient, but informal. We create a relaxed atmosphere, which allows people to take time with their meal and then sit and enjoy a brandy if they wish.

"We have all worked very hard to make the restaurant a success and we are very pleased with the listing."
