FLY-TIPPERS are being tracked down by Kirklees Council.

This year enforcement actions in the district are up 296% while incidents are down 7%.

And the Government’s Department for Environment and Rural Affairs has rated Kirklees as ‘very effective’ in dealing with fly tipping.

Clr Martyn Bolt, the council Cabinet’s member for the environment, welcomed the results.

He said: “Our increased performance should serve as a warning to anyone considering fly- tipping.

“I would like to thank all responsible residents for their co-operation in helping us tackle this problem and achieving the highest possible rating from the Government.”

Clr Bolt added: “We are focused on prevention rather than simply clearing up the mess. We now have a team of seven people dealing with fly-tipping and have CCTV cameras at problem sites.”

And Clr Bolt added that Kirklees also encouraged people to dispose of their waste responsibly.

He said: “We have five household waste recycling centres across the district and a free bulky collection service for items such as sofas and washing machines. So there is no excuse for fly-tipping.’’
