A JEWELLER has vowed to weather the storm following an £80,000 theft from his store.

Jason Wilby said the raid from Gold n Time in the Queensgate Market had made him more determined than ever to build the business back up.

And he revealed that he had invested in new CCTV security cameras and sensors on the roof of the store following the heist last month.

The hooded gang dropped into the building through a skylight and pointed torches at security cameras to ensure images were unclear.

Several raiders are believed to have been involved and they spent just 11 minutes bagging a haul of 300 items of gold jewellery including distinctive pendants, rings, bracelets, earrings and watches.

Jason and his dad, Harry, have run the business for the past six years.

The burglary is believed to have taken place between 5pm on Saturday, April 9 and 9am on Monday, April 11.

Jason said: I am determined that the business will weather the storm.

Gold prices are high at the moment, so Im not buying any more gold stock but we will be buying fashion pieces and silver.

Customers have been asking what is going to happen but I am determined to carry on.

I think the police are still following up leads but I would appeal to anyone who saw anything or who is offered any of the pieces to get in touch with police.

A police spokesman from West Yorkshire Police said enquiries were continuing.
