Trading standards is officers are warning of a spate of bogus loan companies which have scammed West Yorkshire residents.
The fraudsters cold call homes and purport to offer a loan and request upfront arrangement payment of usually around £100 in the form of electronic transfer.
But when the loan fails to materialise the residents realise its a scam but by then fees have been taken direct from their bank accounts without consent.
West Yorkshire Trading Standards Service has investigation a spate of calls linked to a business called “Loans4U” allegedly trading from a fictitious address in Leeds city centre.
The address is linked to telephone number 0113 3280111 which, when dialled, cuts straight into an answering service for consumers to leave their details.
The fraudsters tend to use generic names such as “Best Loans”, “Loan2Loans” and can send convincing emails which even include fake emails from the Financial Conduct Authority “authorising” the loan.
