ELDERLY people have been warned about rogue mobility companies operating in Huddersfield.

West Yorkshire Trading Standards Service (WYTSS) said it wanted to highlight the problem of elderly and vulnerable people becoming repeat victims of rogue traders in their own homes. Earlier this year, WYTSS took action against rogue mobility companies Made to Measure and Easynights Ltd.

The businesses specifically targeted elderly vulnerable people. Some have Alzheimer’s disease or other short term memory related illnesses, meaning they did not have the mental capacity to form a contract. Victims were talked into vastly overpriced mobility aids consumers did not need, nor were they able to operate. Some consumers, despite cancelling their contracts, have still not been refunded.

The campaign comes after the Office For Fair Trading revealed it had received 4,000 complaints about the mobility aid sector in the past three years. Visit the web: www.oft.gov.uk
