THE launch of her charity appeal was particularly poignant for Calderdale Mayor Clr Olwen Jennings.
Her choice of charity, Macmillan Cancer Relief, is a small clue to the heartache that she has known in losing loved ones to cancer.
It was just over 11 years ago that Clr Jennings's husband, Robert, died of lung cancer.
He had been ill for some time, but cancer was only diagnosed a short while before his death. Then, two years ago, her daughter-in-law, Jacqueline, died after a long battle with lymph node cancer.
Clr Jennings said: "In both cases, Macmillan nurses were there to help give Robert and Jacqueline quality time with those closest to them.
"Macmillan nurses aren't just there for the patients. They are also there for the people who care for them."
