A young trampolinist has been hurt in a freak accident at Huddersfield Sports Centre.

She was injured when she came off the trampoline and hit the poolside before ending up in the pool on Thursday evening.

The pool was then cleared while a rescue operation got underway with people supporting her in the water while she was treated by lifeguards, staff and then paramedics.

After she was stabilised she was taken to Leeds General Infirmary where her condition is said to be stable.

The youngster, who has not been named, is a member of the Rebound Trampoline Club which is affiliated to British Gymnastics.

A spokeswoman for Kirklees Active Leisure (KAL) said: “An isolated accident occurred in a trampoline training session.

“A girl fell from a trampoline and landed on poolside before entering the pool.

“Our lifeguards and staff responded to this emergency situation, the alarm was raised and the pool cleared while staff attended to the girl.

“The emergency services were called immediately and paramedics attended the scene, resulting in the individual being taken to Leeds General Infirmary.

“Following the incident the pool area was cleared and the pool was closed.

“The pool has re-opened this morning as usual and the girl’s condition is reported to be stable and conscious.

“KAL have strict health and safety regulations in place and are thankful to the professionalism of our staff who acted quickly to this incident.

“We are in contact with the girls’ parents and wish her a speedy recovery”.
