A FOX was rescued by firefighters after becoming trapped on a ladder at the side of a canal.
The animal was caught in a lockside ladder rung on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal, at Colne Vale Road in Milnsbridge.
Contractors working nearby had almost drained the lock and the fox had run across the shallow water on Monday night.
However, yesterday it was found stuck in the ladder rung inside the lock and firefighters from Huddersfield were called to rescue it.
They drained the lock so the animal could free itself.
Firefighters managed to catch the animal and handed it over to RSPCA officers.
It was taken to an RSPCA centre on Mount Street in Bradford, where it was examined by a vet.
It was very distressed and was thought to have a broken leg.
