A Cleckheaton pub was forced to close after a group of travellers took over the outside tables.

Details of the problems emerged on social media. A Facebook user wrote: “Went to the Silver Birch for lunch. Was met at the door by manager who said ‘very sorry we have had to close due to car park being taken over by gypsies, 4 x4s, wagons cars etc all sat on the outside tables laughing and shouting’.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Officers attended at a public house in Centurion Way, Cleckheaton, shortly before 1.30pm this afternoon following a report that a number of caravans had been parked up at the location blocking access. The group were spoken to by police and left the site at 2.15pm.”

No-one from the Marstons pub, near Chain Bar roundabout, was available for comment.
