COWLERSLEY Primary School welcomed the Mayor of Kirklees Clr Julie Stewart-Turner to plant a fruit tree to mark the start of the school’s new community allotment project.

Each class at the school is to have its own allotment and children are to grow a variety of fruit and vegetables of their choice.

The produce is then to be prepared, cooked and shared by the school’s cookery club.

Members of the School Council helped the mayor plant the first tree in the school’s community orchard.

It is hoped the project will be up and running during the summer term and children, staff and community members will be able to share the fruits of their labour.
