STORMY winds blew a massive tree across a Huddersfield road.

The tree came crashing down on Lady House Lane, between Hall Bower and Berry Brow, at around 9am yesterday.

A man out walking his dog saw winds blow the tree over and alerted police.

Staff from Kirklees Council's forestry department were dispatched and began chopping the tree up.

Kirklees Council forestry officer Ramsay Bloom said: "It was the only tree that had come down and blocked a road.

"If anyone spots trees or large branches, which have come down on pavements and roads, they should contact us immediately."
