DISC parking is coming to Holmfirth.

Kirklees Council’s Cabinet decided yesterday that visiting motorists will be able to buy a disc for £1 allowing them to park free in designated zones for a maximum of four hours. The discs will be valid for a month.

Parking is free, providing the motorist doesn’t overstay.

The scheme will operate every day between 8am and 4pm on Huddersfield Road, Station Road, Dunford Road, Greenfield Road, Woodhead Road and Cooper Lane.

However, residents of these areas will be entitled to discs allowing them to park there at any time.

The 18-month experiment will begin next June and cost £70,000.

Cabinet member for transport Clr Martyn Bolt said: “This is something we’ve been working on with ward members, the area committee and the parish council. I welcome this imaginative approach.”
