TWO traffic policemen have released a tribute CD to raise money for the memorial funds of murdered Pcs Ian Broadhurst and Sharon Beshenivsky.

Pc Paul Feather, 37, and Pc Richard Hopper, 40 - who are both based in the Dewsbury area of Kirklees - have recorded a version of the REM classic, Everybody Hurts.

The recording has been made as a tribute to both Pc Broadhurst, who was murdered in Leeds on Boxing Day 2003, and Pc Beshenivsky, who was shot dead in Bradford last November.

Pc Feather sings on the record, while Pc Hopper has sorted out sponsorship and produced the CD.

Pc Feather said: "I didn't know either Ian or Sharon personally, but what happened to them took away a part of me as a police officer.

"When Ian died I was at home, my phone was ringing constantly all day long with family and friends checking up to see if I was all right.

"I can relate to the job he was doing at the time he was killed."

He added: "I was working the day Sharon died. When news broke everyone was so shocked and stunned.

"Lots of people have come up to me as an officer to offer their condolences. Everyone feels this sense of loss and pain.

"It was this thought that triggered us to record the song as everyone does hurt sometimes. We can all relate to this.

"The lyrics are a poignant message and seem to capture how people feel about what has happened.

Pc Hopper added: "I knew Ian when I was stationed at Holbeck and we both joined the traffic department together, completing our initial courses at the same time.

"His death was particularly painful to come to terms with.

"Those who do want to do something constructive, but don't know how to help can now buy a copy of the CD in the knowledge that the money raised is going to the memorial funds for both officers.

"A number of local businesses and larger companies have helped us tremendously to make this dream a reality. Without their valuable assistance none of this would have been possible.

"I would like to thank them so much for their support."

Now 5,000 copies will be on sale from January 14 from branches of ASDA, Sainsbury, Woolworths, HMV and the White Rose Shopping Centre in Leeds. They cost £3.50 each.

The single will also be available as a download from www.itunes.com
