HUDDERSFIELD families suffering from the loss of a baby are being invited to take part in a festive tribute.

A special Christmas tree will be put in place at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary to offer families the chance to remember babies they have lost.

People will be able to hang a silver star on the tree containing a personal message of remembrance.

Deborah Deane, nursing auxiliary, organising the scheme, said: "We warmly welcome anyone who wishes to help us decorate our special tree.

"Dealing with the tragic loss of a baby is heartbreaking for families.

"With one in four pregnancies ending in miscarriage, a lot of families are affected.

"Often their grief is quickly forgotten by others.

"We hope the tree will be a focus this Christmas for those so briefly known but so dearly loved."

The stars are available from the enquiry desk in the main entrance or from Ward 3 on the first floor.
