A MEMORIAL service for people affected by road death and injury will be held in Leeds on Sunday.

The event is organised annually by Scard – Support and Care after Road Death and Injury.

The 10th annual Oak Leaf Memorial Service will take place at Leeds Parish Church at 3 p.m.

The service is for everyone affected by road death and injury and for those who support them.

The Rev Joanna Yates, Precentor of Leeds, will conduct the service.

Bereaved and injured people plan and take part in the service, and contribute poems and observations.

Families will also take photographs of their loved ones, which are displayed around the font. The victims' names will be read out and a candle will be lit for each name and for each life lost.

Also attending will be civic dignitaries and emergency service representatives from all over Yorkshire.

Kirklees Council's road safety manager David Warburton said: "Road safety officers are indebted to Scard for the vital role it plays in supporting families.

"The Oak Leaf Service is an important reminder that we must continue to do everything we can to reduce the loss."
