THE Army today paid tribute to a West Yorkshire soldier killed in a road crash on the A1.
Rifleman Paul Atkinson, 21, of 3 Battalion The Rifles, was driving a Peugeot 306 on Saturday when the accident happened.
His car left the road north of the A684 Leeming Bar junction in North Yorkshire and hit a tree. He died at the scene.
Commanding officer Capt Simon Clark said the soldier, from Dewsbury, had a bright future ahead of him.
He added: “He was well liked and respected among his colleagues and will be sadly missed.”
North Yorkshire Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident to contact them.
