WORSHIPPERS celebrated the 40th anniversary of their church.

Members of Trinity Methodist and United Reformed Church in Honley gathered to mark the milestone.

In 1969, Southgate Methodist, High Street Methodist and Moor Bottom Congregational merged at the Moor Bottom site.

Bob Armitage has worshipped at Trinity for the last 40 years.

He said: “We were three churches fighting for the same congregation so we thought the best thing to do would be to form one church.

“Forty years ago there was an enthusiasm for bringing Christian churches together and similar mergers took place in Paddock, Kirkheaton and Marsden.”

Mr Armitage believes Trinity has a bright future. He said: “Reverend Charlotte Lorimer is a superb minister and we’re very much at the heart of the community.”

Trinity has fellowships for men and women and hosts a scout group and playgroup.
