TOP community workers have had their efforts rewarded at a special ceremony.

The Kirklees Federation of Tenants’ and Residents’ Associations held its second annual awards night at Rawthorpe Community Centre on Brownroyd Avenue.

Receiving long-service awards were chairman Cora Carter MBE, from Cowlersley (20 years), committee member Hilary Stracey, of Almondbury (10 years), and member Rachel Powell, of Brackenhall (10 years).

The federation, which was formed in November 1987, is an umbrella organisation for tenants’ and residents’ associations across Kirklees.

Fieldworker Maxine Edwards, who organised the event, said: “We normally do the ceremony at our annual meeting, but this time we wanted to do something special to recognise our members’ work.

“It gives them recognition for the voluntary work they’ve done for their town’s estates and with the federation for improving things across Kirklees.”
