MORE than 100 staff face compulsory redundancy, Kirklees Council announced this afternoon.

The council wants to reduce its workforce by 1,500 to deal with the public spending freeze expected in the next few months.

Hundreds of staff have already volunteered to go – but Kirklees chief executive Rob Vincent announced this afternoon that compulsory redundancies were unavoidable.

The council estimates that 140 staff will have to be shown the door this Autumn.
