POLICE have confirmed body parts found in a stable were nothing more sinister than the remains of a sheep.

The organs were sent for forensic examination yesterday after they were discovered in Upper Hopton, near Mirfield, on Sunday morning.

Early indications were that the matter came from an animal, but tests were carried out to make sure.

A police spokeswoman said: "The forensic examination confirmed the organs were from a sheep."

BODY parts have been sent for examination by forensics experts after they were found in a village.

Organs were discovered in a stable on Sunday morning in Upper Hopton, between Kirkheaton and Mirfield.

Police believe the parts are from an animal but want to make sure they are not human.

A spokeswoman said: “Police were called to stables in Upper Hopton at about 11.20am on Sunday following the discovery of some organs.

“They have been sent to the forensic science service for analysis.”

Test results are expected today.

The find has echoes of the scare that was sparked by the discovery of remains on the moors above Meltham last August.

A full-scale police operation was launched after a farmer found body parts on Wessenden Head, a mile off the Greenfield to Holmfirth road.

Police teams cordoned off half an acre of moorland and there were rumours the remains were human and could even have been linked to the Moors murders.

But the inquiry ended when it turned out it was a dead sheep.
