PARENTS fighting to discover how two teenagers died in Huddersfield have launched a campaign.

The parents of Jade Rice and Daniel Atkinson have also arranged a face-to-face meeting with Director of Public Prosecutions Keir Starmer, in a bid to get justice for their children.

They are angry and upset that despite a coroner ruling that the teenage pair were unlawfully killed, no-one has been brought to justice.

The 17-year-olds were killed when a car being driven by care worker Mohammed Tanwir hit a tree and a lamp-post at 80mph in a 40mph zone on Bradley Road, Bradley on January 29, 2006.

Shipley man Mr Tanwir was employed as a ‘sleep-in’ worker at the home on Sherwood Avenue in Bradley where the youngsters had been staying.

A dangerous driving charge against Mr Tanwir was dropped in November the same year, due to insufficient evidence presented by the Crown Prosecution Service.

Later a coroner’s verdict said the teenagers were “unlawfully killed”, which gave the family new hope of court action.

But their hopes were shattered when the Attorney General, Baroness Scotland, ruled that she would not refer the case back to court.
