A LONG-SERVING employee at a Huddersfield engineering firm has won a top award.

Robert Turner was named Commercial Refrigeration Engineer of the Year by the Institute of Refrigeration.

Mr Turner, 50, received a trophy and a cheque for £400 at the institute's 105th annual dinner at London's Grosvenor House Hotel.

The award was presented by institute president Dr Guy Hundy.

Mr Turner was recognised for his skill, knowledge of equipment installations and success in passing on his expertise to apprentices and other staff at Honley firm Crowther & Shaw Ltd.

Mr Turner, who lives at Hove Edge, Brighouse, is a senior refrigeration engineer at the firm where he has worked for the past 26 years.

And his success comes at a busy time for Crowther & Shaw.

The company has won orders worth more than £1m to design and fit refrigeration and air conditioning systems for customers including Northern Foods in Sheffield and others in Wigan, Chester and Leeds.
