A TV trilogy based on books by Dewsbury author David Peace has been shortlisted for a prestigious Bafta TV award.

Red Riding, the adaptation of Peace’s novels set in Yorkshire in the late 70s and early 80s was a Screen Yorkshire production and was shown on Channel 4 last year.

The gritty trilogy, shot at locations across West Yorkshire in 2008, has been shortlisted for the Drama Serial category at next month’s awards.

Hosted by Graham Norton and broadcast on BBC1, the prestigious awards ceremony will be held at London’s Palladium on Sunday June 6.

Meanwhile, the crew behind Red Riding, many of whom are from the region, are way ahead in the nominations at the British Academy Television Craft Awards which honour the unseen heroes of television.

The series is nominated in seven categories; Costume Design, Editing Fiction, Original Television Music, Production Design, Sound Fiction, Make Up & Hair Design, Photography & Lighting Fiction.

The British Academy Television Craft Awards, hosted by Christine Bleakley, will take place on Sunday May 22 at the London Hilton.
