STUDENTS are being reminded they risk a £1,000 fine if they move to new “digs” without a television license.

With 4,200 freshers at Huddersfield University due to complete their first year in the next few weeks, TV Licensing is reminding them they must update their address details as they will not be covered at a new address.

This can be done at www.tvlicensing.co.uk/students2008

Students who are moving later in the summer can update their details up to 90 days in advance.

Refunds can also be claimed by students not staying on at university over the summer.

Charlotte Hancock, TV Licensing spokesperson for the North said: “Many people believe that when they move, their licence moves with them – however this is not the case.

“We are simply asking students to spend a minute or two online to update their address details, which means we can contact them to check they are correctly licensed.”

More details can be obtained by phone on 0844 800 6734.
