PAEDIATRICS sister Marie Mosalski has turned TV director to bring a little extra help to patients and their families at the Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

She realised that some parents of younger children struggled when they came into hospitals because of language difficulties.

So she has produced a programme for the in-hospital TV service explaining the basics about children’s care in hospitals.

Marie, from Greetland, asked Durdana Hameed a mum whose own child has had hospital care, and who works in pharmacy at HRI, to translate the information into Urdu and to ‘star’ in the film.

The information is also carried in English subtitles across the bottom of the screen.

Marie said: “Sometimes some of our parents struggle with reading and writing and so we hope this will help them understand the basics of what their stay in hospital will involve.

“There have been times when it is evident that a parent does not have all the information they need and, at a difficult times such as this, our staff want to do all we can to help them.

“This is a simple guide but should answer a lot of questions and help put minds at ease a little.”

Marie is now working on a version in Polish.
