CHILDREN and staff at Meltham Moor Primary School were star-struck at the weekend when a celebrity guest attended their autumn fair.

Television presenter Matt Baker, best known for his seven-year stint on popular children’s programme Blue Peter, was on hand to open Saturday’s event which raised money for school funds.

There were a number of other attractions on offer at the fair, alongside the star’s appearance, which included a bouncy castle, face painting, prize draw, cakes, tombola, and children’s games.

Matt is well known for his presenting work with the BBC, and aside from Blue Peter he has also worked on Country File, Crufts, City Hospital and BBC sport.

He has won many awards for his work, including two Baftas, Best Children’s Presenter, and an award from the Royal Television Society for his work on Blue Peter. The star is also a hang-gliding world record holder.

Commenting on Matt’s visit, headteacher Mike Whitfield, said: “We are very grateful to Matt for giving up his time to come to our autumn fair.

“It is a really enjoyable event and it was great to have Matt with us.”
