HUDDERSFIELD'S traditional festive funfair opens on Boxing Day.

Organisers today promised 12 days of fun-filled entertainment.

Workers have already begun putting up the rides in St George's Square.

Stewart Robinson, the fair promoter, said the attraction set to create the biggest stir would be the spectacular High Energy ride.

The spectacular swinging pendulum features seats which spin and swing more than 60ft in the air. Mr Robinson said: "The ride was a huge hit on its visit to the area last year and will no doubt prove equally popular on its return."

The fair will open everyday from 11am to 8pm and will run every day up to and including Saturday, January 6.

Smaller rides for younger children include a spooky ghost train, crooked cottage, cups and saucers and a pirate ship.

Money-off vouchers for the fair are available free from Huddersfield Tourist Information Centre, Albion Street, stores and the information centre at the town's bus station.

Mr Robinson said: "This year we have assembled some fantastic funfair equipment from around the country, with white-knuckle rides and popular family attractions.

"The Christmas tradition has become a Huddersfield tradition and we are once again looking forward to our visit."
