A TWO-car smash closed a road to a Colne Valley village.

Ambulance crews and the police were called to Round Ings Road at Scapegoat Hill just after 9am yesterday.

Two cars had crashed virtually head-on and the road was completely blocked until late morning.

The smash involved a Ford Escort and an Audi A3.

Both cars are thought to have been spun round by the force of the impact.

The Ford was left completely across the road, entirely blocking it. The front wheel on the driver’s side had been ripped off by the force of the impact.

The Escort driver suffered suspected neck and back injuries and was placed on a spinal board before he was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary by ambulance.

He is not thought to have been badly hurt.

Audi driver David Yorke, 61, of Scapegoat Hill, suffered shock along with wrist and shoulder injuries and was also taken to hospital.

He said: “There was massive bang on impact and the airbags activated. Both cars look to be written off. It’s a shame as that Audi was the best car I’ve ever had.’’
