TWO young men were trapped and badly hurt in a car crash at Fenay Bridge.

Their Seat Ibiza is thought to have hit a lamp-post and wall at Wakefield Road just after 11pm last night .

Both were pinned in the mangled wreckage and suffered serious leg injuries.

Paramedics were first on the scene and stabilised the men before firefighters could free them.

Watch manager Andy Farrell, of Huddersfield fire station, said: "The car was so badly damaged we could not make out what make it was.

"The impact damage at the front was severe.

"Both men were semi-conscious and breathing, but had suffered serious leg injuries."

Fire crews from Huddersfield and Skelmanthorpe cut the roof off and then used spreading equipment to free the men.

The rescue operation took about an hour.

Both were taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

The road was sealed off for several hours.
