TWO drivers escaped injury in a crash near Bretton.
Police said an icy stretch of road may have caused the crash in Bar Lane, Midgley, between Flockton and Bretton.
The accident yesterday morning meant the busy road was blocked for at least two hours.
That caused major disruption for drivers heading to the M1 motorway interchange at Bretton from Huddersfield.
Police said the accident happened at 8.50am yesterday when the two cars collided close to the Bretton roundabout.
Both drivers were trapped for a while but were freed by fire service crews and ambulance paramedics.
Both were taken to Pinderfields Hospital, Wakefield, with minor injuries.
A police spokesman said: “The traffic officers at the scene noted that the road was very icy and called in council highways workers with a gritting lorry.
“The road was closed until the vehicles were removed the and the surface had been treated”.
Police were today hoping to name a Dewsbury man killed in a crash.
The 47-year-old van driver, from Earlsheaton, died after his vehicle crashed in the centre of Ossett.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident.
The accident happened at 1:45pm when a Ford Transit van was travelling along Ventnor Way, towards Kingsway. It was around 50metres from Wesley Street when it was crashed into the central reservation.
As a result of the collision, the driver of the van was killed.
Any witnesses to the collision are being asked to contact Wakefield Roads Police on 01924 295 436 or the Major Collision Enquiry Team on 01924 293 047.
