Two people are recovering in hospital following a crash on the M62 in the early hours of this morning.

The man and a woman were involved in a crash on the westbound section of the motorway between junctions 25 at Brighouse and 24 at Ainley Top.

Firefighters from Huddersfield, Brighouse and Elland were called and had to help release one of those trapped.

A West Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “A white Mini had overturned and one person had to be assisted out of the car and the other was able to get out themselves.

“Both were taken to Leeds General Infirmary for treatment for serious injuries.”

The motorway had to be closed for around an hour while emergency services worked at the scene but it re-opened at 5.45am.
