TWO men have appeared in court accused of trying to burgle a house in the early hours.

Dean Walton, of Hammond Street in Fartown and John Swift, of no fixed abode, were before Huddersfield magistrates.

The pair are jointly accused of entering a property on Blackhouse Road, Fartown, with intent to steal.

Walton, 21, faces a further charge of possession of 63 bags of cannabis with intent to supply. He denies both charges.

Swift, 18, is alleged to have been in possession of a lock knife.

He denies the theft but gave no indication of plea to his separate charge.

Vanessa Schofield, prosecuting, said that a house burglary was attempted at 3.30am.

She said that no one was in the property but it is usually occupied by a lady with an 18-month old.

Both men were remanded in custody until their next hearings.

Walton will next be before the court on February 20 while Swift is due to appear today.
