TWO drunken friends whose play fighting appeared to get out of hand were arrested when they then started to abuse police called to the scene.

Mikias Hagof Tekeste, 19, of New Street, Huddersfield and Keith Muchando, 25 of Pontefract, swore at police after they were called to reports of two men fighting in John William Street on December 15 at 5.50pm.

Prosecutor Abdul Shakoor said officers found Muchando staggering round. His eyes were glazed and his speech was slurred.

Officers warned them about their language and told them to go home, but were again verbally abused.

The pair were arrested and pleaded guilty at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court yesterday to being drunk and disorderly in a public place.

Muchando, who already had £120 of outstanding fines payable, had a further £140 added to his bill payable at £20 per fortnight.

Tekeste, who had £435 of outstanding fines had a further £85 added to his bill, payable also at £20 per fortnight.
