A 17-year-old youth and a taxi driver in his 40s were taken to hospital last night after a serious crash.

Both were hurt in an accident at the junction of Liley Lane and Bellstring Lane, Kirkheaton at 7.20pm.

The junction is an accident blackspot and residents have been keeping a toll.

This was the third crash this week on the road.

Huddersfield fire crew commander Richard Meakin said the 17-year-old had been driving a Vauxhall Corsa and the man in his 40s a Peugeot taxi.

Mr Meakin said: “The young man managed to get out through the passenger door but for the taxi driver we had to remove the back seats and bring him out on a spine board.

“Both were taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary with neck and chest injuires. Police are investigating the incident.”

Two more drivers have fallen victim to a notorious stretch of country road near Huddersfield.

On Sunday evening a Renault Clio ended up on its roof and on Monday morning a Honda Civic crashed through a fence and landed in a field.

There were three crashes in three days in November and the accident count continues to rise.
