A TWO-year-old girl has been knocked down and killed in Brighouse.  

The little girl died after the accident near Wellholme Park on Sunday.

Sergeant Garry Alderson of Calderdale Road Traffic Police said the accident happened on at 12.50pm on Bradford Road, outside the park.

Police are now appealing for any witnesses to the tragedy.

A VW Passat was travelling along Bradford Road towards Brighouse when it collided with two pedestrians.

The two-year-old girl from Brighouse was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary with serious injuries, but later died.

A 34-year-old man from Brighouse also suffered serious injuries and has been detained at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary where his condition is described as serious but stable.

The driver of the Passat, a 46-year-old Halifax man, suffered cuts to his hands but did not seek hospital treatment.

There were a number of cars parked outside the park at the time and officers would like to trace the owners of those vehicles.
