It’s a concert that’s become as traditional in Huddersfield as mince pies.

Huddersfield Parish Church St Peter’s was packed to the rafters when the Huddersfield and District University of the Third Age choir singers took to the stage for their carol service.

Members from across the district came to enjoy the event where the Ladies’ Choir and the Mixed Choir entertained with a mixture of traditional carols and those with a twist on the original versions.

The concert still continues to attract large numbers since it was first launched many years ago.

U3A chairman Liz Robson said: “It was a wonderful morning and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

“It’s an important event because it’s a great way for our members from across the area to meet and mingle and is also a great showcase for our choirs.

“They brought something different to the service which went down very well.

“We also had traditional readings an poems by three of our members, one of whom performed an original piece.

“The Vintage Brass band performed before and after the concert when we served refreshments so that people could catch up with one another.”
