We've already told you the safest ways to watch the solar eclipse on Friday - but do you know what NOT to do?

The sun can be very damaging to your eyes, and general advice is never to look at it without any protective eyewear.

You might think it is safe to watch the eclipse through sunglasses - but according to American space agency NASA, it's not.

The only time the Sun can be viewed safely with the naked eye is during a total eclipse, when the Moon completely covers the sun.

It is never safe to look at a partial eclipse without the proper equipment.

And NASA says you should NEVER look at an eclipse through:

  • colour film
  • medical x-ray film with images on them
  • smoked glass
  • any kind of sunglasses
  • CDs or floppy disks
