THE car-share lane plan was welcomed by a Huddersfield transport expert.

Prof Colin Bamford, head of the university's transport and logistics department, said the proposed high-occupancy lane on the M606 was a good idea, in principle.

He said:

"The cost of implementation will be low.

"The lane should reduce congestion along this stretch and at the roundabout where the M606 joins Bradford Ring Road.

"In turn, commuters will waste less time. There will be fuel savings and less CO2 emissions from queuing vehicles, with marginally less travel costs."

But he warned: "Most people prefer to have their own space when travelling to work. It may not be easy to get more people to car share."
