STUDENTS are taking over the airwaves in Huddersfield this month.

Huddersfield University radio station Ultra 87.9FM has gone on air from the students' union at Milton Hall.

The team is being led by final year media students Sarah Hopkins and Leon Rushworth.

Sarah said: "After months of planning Ultra FM is finally on air. We are confident we have got a great team of presenters to entertain the people of Huddersfield.

"A whole host of local businesses have shown their support by sponsoring shows and advertising - the response has been fantastic."

The station has a licence to broadcast until March 14.

Listeners in Huddersfield, Bradford, Leeds and drivers on the M62 can tune in to the station.

The station, which is part of the Student Broadcast Network, will be run by radio and media students from the university.

Programmes will include hourly national news, the Student Radio Chart, The Greasy Bunch with Leon and Sarah, Northern Monkeys and Not of the Pops.
