THANKS very much!

That was the message from tsunami relief chiefs today as they revealed that the money raised by Examiner readers has topped the £5,000 mark.

The newspaper launched an appeal last week in conjunction with Unicef.

And the charity's regional fundraising manager Louis Coles said he was delighted with the response.

"That money can provide a clean safe drink of water for 834,800 people.

"50p is enough to buy water purification tablets to give 120 children a litre of clean, safe water to drink.

"It can buy 1,738 of boxes of high energy biscuits and £2 can feed a malnourished child for one week with high energy biscuits, which can help to build a child's strength and restore their health."

Mr Coles added: "Thank you so much to the readers of the Huddersfield Examiner for your generous donations - we really could not do this without you.

"Unicef is amazed by the generosity of the Examiner readers. Your support will help us to make a massive difference to the lives of women and children across South Asia so tragically affected by this disaster.

"It is not too late to help us save lives."
