A MAN took his dad’s BMW for a ‘spin’.

But it ended with Arturas Sinkevicius, of Walpole Road, Crosland Moor, appearing at Huddersfield Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The 20-year-old was charged with driving without insurance, and failing to stop for police. He pleaded guilty to both.

Brian Simpson, prosecuting, said: “It was lunchtime on Sunday, March 15 in the Lockwood area.

“Mr Sinkevicius was driving his dad’s car which it seems he had taken out for a spin.

“He shouldn’t have been doing this as he doesn’t have insurance.”

The court heard how the defendant had not stopped immediately for police because music was blaring from the car stereo.

Manat Ali, defending, said Sinkevicius was not from England but had a driving licence in his home country where he had been driving since a very young age.

Mr Ali said there had been a lack of communication between the defendant and the police because of language barriers.

The defendant had recently lost his job in a clothes factory.

District Judge Andrew Pascoe fined Sinkevicius £65 for failing to stop, and £100 for driving without insurance.

Six points were put on his licence and he was given a bill for £43 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
