THE University of Huddersfield has cemented its position as one of the country’s very best when it comes to ensuring that graduates quickly get jobs.

For the second year running it is at sixth place in a national league table compiled on behalf of the Government.

And once again it is the top university in Yorkshire for graduate employability.

Huddersfield has also out-performed a roster of traditionally elite universities such as Oxford (at 43rd in the table of non-specialist or mainstream universities), Cambridge (29th) and Durham (18th).

Huddersfield occupies a higher place in the table than regional universities that include York (30th), Leeds (15th) and Manchester (39th). The Yorkshire university closest to Huddersfield is Hull, in tenth place.

The figures are compiled by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA), which aims to gather the most accurate data possible.

It has found that in 2010-2011, 93.5% of Huddersfield graduates had found jobs or had moved on to further study within six months of leaving the university.

Senior University of Huddersfield figures have once again welcomed the HESA findings, especially as economic conditions remain tough.

Prof Tim Thornton, who is Pro-Vice Chancellor for Teaching and Learning, said: “We continue to have great record for graduate employability because of the emphasis that we place on supporting students through professional courses, our excellent links with industry and the professions, and the high quality of our teaching.”
