University of Huddersfield student Laura Powell is best in the country

KIRKLEES graduate Laura Powell, triumphed in the Creative Arts, Media and Design category of the Xcel Student of the Year Awards.

Laura, 21, a former University of Huddersfield public relations student, received her prize at a ceremony in London.

Laura, from Liversedge, was nominated after producing a final-year project to raise awareness of the British Heart Foundation among young people.

The charity’s fundraiser, Sue Green, said: “The award is well deserved and we are so pleased for Laura.

“It was a pleasure to work with her and she showed excellent skills.’’

Huddersfield University journalism graduates Rebecca Elvin and Jonathan Forrester shared the Creative Arts, Media and Design award at last year’s event.
