Doctor can get back to work

A HUDDERSFIELD doctor has been cleared to practise again by the General Medical Council.

Jayanth Peddi was originally suspended last December 8.

He was told the action was being taken pending the outcome of an investigation into matters relating to him.

But a subsequent hearing by the GMC's Interim Orders Panel has reinstated Dr Peddi.

His name is now back on the medical register and he can practise again.

The GMC has not revealed the details surrounding the case.

But a spokesman said cases were referred to the panel when a doctor was facing allegations of such a nature that it may be necessary for the protection of members of the public, or otherwise be in the public interest or in the interests of the doctor, for the doctor's registration to be restricted while the allegations were resolved.

The spokesman added that considerations taken into account included preserving public trust in the medical profession and maintaining good standards of conduct and performance.
