Acorn appeal

LOCAL Romania charity Acorn faces its biggest ever fundraising drive yet.

The kind-hearted group wants to raise a whopping £10k to revamp a dilapidated community centre in the poverty-stricken village of Paulesti, near the town of Ploiesti.

But first they've put out an urgent appeal for cash to pay for medical essentials.

Chairman Alison Rayner says: "It's minus 20 degrees in Paulesti at the moment and due to some internal wranglings they've all but closed the local children's hospital.

"This means the GP has been innundated - and the surgery has run out of all the essentials."

Of the community centre plan, Alison says: "This is the biggest single project in our 14 year history.
