VILLAGERS are trying to block a plan to build five houses in a garden.

Cooper Lawrence Homes has asked Kirklees Council for permission to knock down a bungalow at Denby Lane in Upper Denby.

The developer wants to put up five two-storey houses on the site. The homes would form a cul-de-sac on the 0.19 hectare site.

But 54 residents have written to the council’s Heavy Woollen Planing Sub-committee calling for the proposal to be knocked back.

Clr Jim Dodds supports the objectors.

The Denby Dale Conservative said: “Five houses on that small site would be too many.

“There are also some highways issues, there’s some doubt that a refuse van or fire engine could make it into the site.”

Clr Dodds will speak against the development at Thursday’s sub-committee meeting.
