AN elderly Golcar man claims he was abandoned in Blackpool by coach company Abbeyways.

Eric Massam took a short holiday to Blackpool with his wife.

They caught the bus from Huddersfield, having paid £32.50 for a return ticket for two.

When the driver dropped them off in Blackpool, he was unable to leave them at the usual point on Albert Road because of roadworks.

However, Mr Massam said he promised to tell his colleagues at Abbeyways to pick them up at the spot where they had been dropped off.

However, when the Massams and other passengers gathered there a few days later no coach turned up.

Unable to afford another night's accommodation, Mr and Mrs Massam

shared a taxi home, along with another passenger from Honley - at a cost of £120.

Mr Massam said: "Younger people may have gone to the railway station but we had cases and couldn't manage it."

They did not know what to do as it was after office hours.

When Mr Massam later tried to contact Abbeyways,

he was told that the coach had been looking for the passengers and he would not be getting a refund.

After Mr Massam called West Yorkshire Trading Standards Service, an officer from Consumer Direct, part of the Department of Trade and Industry, took up the case.

Eventually, Abbeyways refunded the Massams £36.20 - the cost of train travel from Blackpool to Huddersfield.

Mr Massam said he is still unhappy. "Abbeyways didn't want to know. It's not very good at all."

Anthony Jackson, of Abbeyways, said: "We have dealt with this in substantial correspondences and I really cannot add anything more helpful to what has already been said to this passenger."
